Pure Shea Butter

Our History

Founded in 2003 as an export company with a varied portfolio of West African raw materials, SeKaf Ghana Ltd. began to specialize in shea in 2004. In 2006, it became a social enterprise with a focus on improving the economic status of rural women shea pickers and shea processors. The company inaugurated the SeKaf Shea Butter Village in Kasalgu, Tamale, in August 2008 where surrounding village women assemble and process premium quality unrefined shea butter in a controlled environment. SeKaf collaborates closely with the SeKaf Shea Butter Village’s women’s cooperative and currently buys shea nuts and shea butter from approximately 2,500 women.

Now a fast growing business, SeKaf practices the triple bottom line concept by:

  1. Purchasing community traded shea nuts to make the company’s TAMA® shea butter bath and beauty products;
  2. Employing local village women to produce premium unrefined shea butter that are used in TAMA® products;
  3. Selling TAMA® products at affordable retail prices to Ghanaians and exporting the rest of the shea butter and shea oil in bulk volume to international cosmetic companies.
